As a first blog for Discover NC Homes I thought I would take the opportunity to introduce myself to you and give you a bit of a window into who I am apart from being a Broker with Discover NC Homes.
In my other non-real estate life I am a classically trained Opera Singer. I received my bachelors and Masters degree in vocal performance from Arizona State University and have traveled the country performing everywhere from Lincoln Center in New York City to “The Cave Without a Name” in Boerne, TX.
I am currently performing Il Marito (the husband) in Gian Carlo Menotti’s opera Amelia al Ballo as a guest artist with Opera at USC in Columbia, SC. It is a great opportunity to sing as well as mentor to the next generation of opera singers.
The flexibility of the real estate profession combined with the collaborative efforts of The Dooley Group allow me to still pursue my passion for the stage and continue to provide full time agent service no matter where I happen to be in the country. In fact, on my way to Columbia, I got a flat tire and was able to negotiate and close a deal on the side of the highway while waiting for roadside assistance and still arrive in time for rehearsal!
I am often asked how selling real estate is similar/different to a performing career and I find that the two go very well hand in hand. My catch phrase is “real estate is sometimes preferable because it much easier and less personal to sell a home than it is to sell yourself.” Much like performing, I see property showings for my clients as auditions for the property. Sometimes the home is the ideal fit for the role of home and other times casting director client would like to audition more applicants. Inevitably the home perfectly suited for the role of residence is found.
I look forward to hopefully having more local opportunities to perform and continue to balance life in the roles of Broker/Agent, Opera Singer, Husband, and Father.
If you happen to be in the Columbia, SC area November 2,3, or 4th or are looking for a cultural road trip the information for the opera is below as well as a synopsis of the plot and video clip of a preview excerpt given at the University of South Carolina.
Amelia al ballo (Menotti)
Amelia al ballo – Amelia wants to go to the ball so badly, and she goes to great lengths to get there. This one-act opera buffa (comic opera), composed in 1936 when Gian Carlo Menotti was in his mid-twenties, was the composer’s first mature opera and first critical success. Farcical events and even a passionate musical argument unfold as a young socialite plots to overcome the obstacles to get her there. The composer of the opera, sung in Italian with English supertitles, won a Pulitzer Prize twice and founded the noted Festival dei Due Mondi (Festival of the Two Worlds) in Spoleto, Italy, and its American counterpart, Spoleto Festival USA.
Adults: $25; seniors/USC faculty & staff/military: $20; students with ID: $10
