Brunswick County real estate market surpasses $1 billion in year-to-date sales; close to outselling each of the previous 3 years

SHALLOTTE, N.C. — Brunswick County’s residential real estate market continued to demonstrate consistent strength during September, with total sales for 2019 crossing the $1 billion mark.

“The weather may be cooling down, but Brunswick County’s residential real estate market is showing no signs of following suit said BCAR CEO Cynthia Walsh. “We have already topped a billion dollars in sales this year, and we’re on track to exceed last year’s numbers. The number of homes sold in 2019 is likely to outpace each of the past three years. The bottom line is that our market is in strong shape moving into the fourth quarter.”

The average sale price in September was $288,501, down from $291,329 in August. Average sale prices have not dropped below $280,000 since February. Brunswick County had 488 new listings in September, the lowest number so far this year. The average number of days a home stays on market is hovering in the 80-day range, and the median days on market is 45 days. The number of units sold in 2019 has already topped 2016 and is 843 units away from outpacing 2017 and 988 shy of the 2018 total.

Hurricane Florence impacted Brunswick County in September 2018, resulting in lower real estate activity. Consequently, September 2019 numbers are significantly higher than the same time last year.
