In a recent episode of Nolan’s News, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Deputy Erica Evans from the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office. Deputy Evans visited our office a few weeks ago to deliver an engaging and eye-opening presentation on Realtor Safety, and I knew immediately we had to share her insights with a wider audience.

Deputy Evans works with the Impact Division, which focuses on building strong relationships between law enforcement and the community. From real estate safety tips to fraud awareness and church security, the programs offered by her division are designed to keep all community members—especially those in vulnerable positions—safe and informed.

During our conversation, we touched on several key services the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office provides:

  • Realtor Safety Seminars – With real estate professionals constantly meeting clients in unfamiliar places, these seminars provide valuable tips on situational awareness, red flags, and how to de-escalate potentially dangerous situations.

  • Fraud and Scam Awareness – Especially relevant for seniors and new residents, these presentations walk through the latest phone and internet scams circulating in our area.

  • Security for Places of Worship and Businesses – The Sheriff’s Office provides custom recommendations and evaluations to ensure safety plans are in place for various types of public and private institutions.

  • Community Engagement – From school visits to senior center presentations, the Sheriff’s Office is working every day to be accessible and proactive in helping our neighborhoods thrive.

As real estate professionals, we often focus on closing deals and helping families find the perfect home—but staying safe while doing it is just as important. I was grateful for the practical, actionable advice Deputy Evans shared, and I hope this video helps you or someone you know think a little more critically about safety.
