Hi there, it’s John Dooley with The Dooley Group at Discover NC Homes. So excited to be back, bringing you another video, and I’ve brought a guest with me who I’ll introduce in just a minute. The Dooley Group at Discover NC Homes helps you find a house to move into here in Brunswick County.

And then normally, cause we’re near the beach and near oceans and water and everything, the first question for our buyers, once they get into a house, is how can I get in water as quickly as possible? Of course the ocean is nearby and you have plenty of options there but I wanted to bring in my friend Dave Geary who is the Senior Vice President of Sales and Technology for Island Spas and Pools to tell you a little bit about how you can get water close to you quicker through the vehicles of a hot tub or a swim spa.

Dave, thanks for being here. So, your products at the Island Spa and Pools, you provide hot tubs. You put them in on patios. What’s the process there? What do you do?

David
Well, we have a showroom in Oak Island on Oak Island drive. It’s in the 8,000 block directly across from Shagger Jacks, if anybody knows the area.

John
Delicious food and pools and spas!

David
That’s exactly right! We sell hot tubs, we have them in our showroom. People can stop in, take a look at what we have, we can special order if they don’t like the colors or if they want a different kind with different types of jets. You can get them with loungers, you can get them with just seats.

John
Are these all exterior hot tubs or some interior? Do you do tubs for things?

David
They could probably be interior, but there’s a lot of evaporative moisture. So you would probably want them outside. But we have customers that install them directly into their decks, so that they can walk out and step right down inside. Or they can put them on slabs in their yard. That’s where we put most of our swim spas, but they could also be installed in the deck if they wanted to.

John
Okay, so you do not install pools, is that correct?

David
That is correct. We will maintain pools.

John
Okay, we’ll get to that in a little while. But a swim spa, tell me the difference between a swim spa and a pool.

David
Well, a swim spa is a device that you swim against water current. So, you’re not typically swimming laps like you do in a swimming pool. The water rushes against you, and you can set it according to your speed of swimming, but the water pushes you back and you swim forward, so you stay in the same spot, and you can swim laps like you’d be swimming in a 100 meter pool.

John
Fantastic, so it’s an exercise vehicle, but can you turn the current on and off and just use it as a pool?

David
You can turn the water current off if you like. You can just use it as a pool. The nice thing about it is we sell two different models. One has a hot tub attached to it. One is just the pool portion itself. But if you get the one that has the hot tub associated with it, you can have two different temperatures. You can have some people sitting and doing the hydrotherapy like they would in a hot tub, with the bubbles and everything else, and you can have a different temperature in the swim spa and you can be swimming laps.

We have a wide variety of devices that we can put in a person’s yard and give them the ability to swim, give them the ability to exercise. You can do walking current, so the water can be pushing against you and you can walk in place. But you feel that force that you’re using like when you’re actually walking or walking uphill.

John
That’s fantastic. That’s really cool. I’ll have to try one out at some point in time. In terms of installation and things like that for pools, I know there’s a big time and all of these things.

David
There is. There’s the expense of digging a hole, you have a lot of permits that you have to get with the county and the city, you’re doing a lot of landscaping, you’ve got underwater piping. There’s a lot involved with a swimming pool. And then, once the pool is put in, you’ve got all the cleanup around it too, so that is an added expense. With a swim spa, you basically have a slab, or if you’re putting it into your deck, you can support it with wood underneath and sit it down right in the deck and use it that way. Different people have done it different ways.

We can get you into a hot tub and usually in four to six weeks. We can get you in, unless you come into the showroom and you buy one right off the floor, then it’s just a matter of getting it delivered. I will add that we do delivery, we do set up. All we do is have the owner fill it for us, and then we come back, we set it up and we give instruction on how to use it.

John
That’s awesome. One stop shop. So if we have buyers that move into a house that already has an existing pool, you do maintenance and take care of pools that are already existing?

David
We do. We do maintenance, we do repairs, we do cleaning. So, if someone needs their filters, like a sand filter for instance, they need the sand swapped out, we can do that for them. We sell chemicals in our store. So, if people want chlorine, bromine… We sell sand, but we don’t sell sand hot tubs, with the salt filters.

John
