Hello and welcome. This is Nolan Formalarie with DiscoverNChomes and “Nolan’s News”. I want to talk about the growth in Brunswick County today, and specifically Shallotte.
Brunswick County is it’s the fastest growing county in the state of North Carolina. And it’s one of the fastest growing counties in the entire country. So we’re growing by leaps and bounds with all sorts of residential communities and commercial being put in.
A lot of this growth over the last few years has come from the Leland area. But Shallotte, especially over the last year and a half, has put some amazing commercial property in, which is now drawing some residential developments.
But the last year – year and a half, we’ve added a Starbucks, a Hobby Lobby, Burke’s and Ross, Ulta, Marshall, Five Below and a Harbor Freight too. So huge, huge commercial coming in! And a Chick-fil-A just opened up a few months ago. So because of this it’s finally attracting more residential growth.
There are three planned developments in the works that want to build in or a mile or two outside of the Shallotte area because of this commercial development. That would open up about 1,100 new residential single family homes for us in the middle part of the county, which again, it’s just amazing! But the hard work that Shallotte has put in for this commercial development, I think is paying off with this residential wanting to come.
They haven’t voted on the three communities yet, but they should early next year. I think the area can handle it. I think it’s a great thing. Let’s say, if you are looking in Shalom, again, it’s an up and coming area with wonderful commercial facilities.
